Alabama man’s 32-year-old son killed in Texas; 12-year-old, 20-year-old charged with murder

A fundraising site has been established for an Alabama man whose 32-year-old son was shot and killed at a fast food restaurant in Texas over the weekend.

Steven Davis of Dug Hill, Alabama said his oldest son Matthew Davis was working a Saturday shift at Sonic Drive-In in Keene, Texas. According to WCCB Charlotte, Angel Gomez, 20, went to the restaurant with several passengers and was acting “disorderly” when Davis confronted him for urinating in the parking lot. Police Chief James Kidd said the confrontation turned physical and a 12-year-old in Gomez’s car pulled out an assault rifle and fired six rounds at Davis. Davis was air flighted to a nearby hospital but did not survive.

Gomez and the 12-year-old, whose name has not been released because he is a minor, are charged with murder. Police said the incident appears isolated with no gang affiliations or racial motivations.

In his GoFundMe, Davis said the act was “senseless” and that his son was “getting his life on track and doing well” when he died.

The money raised will go towards final expenses and to care for Matthew’s 10-year-old son, Tristan.
